Puppy Training: Puppy Perks

Wild Child

FUNdamentals of Training

(4 1/2 months and younger)  This is an open-enrollment class, so you don’t have to wait to start training. This is a great beginner’s class to help puppies learn the basic skills necessary to live happily and productively in your home. Classes are held both indoors and outdoors because exposing your puppy to different environments helps build confidence. This class will cover fundamental puppy problems, such as housebreaking, chewing, biting, jumping, socialization, and any specific issues you may be having with your puppy.  We limit the number of students to 8 dogs for the six-week session. Your dog will be eligible to take the AKC Star Puppy Exam by request.  You have 8 weeks to use your 6-week session. This is an open-enrollment class, so you don’t have to wait to start training your puppy.

Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 10: 50 a.m.

Thursday   6:00 p.m. – 6:50 p.m.

(5 months and older) We will focus on teaching your dog to get your attention, develop self-control, walk on a leash, recall, and other basic manners—an excellent first class for newly adopted or inexperienced dog owners looking to train a dog that is already an adult or teenager. Much more challenging, though, is to ensure that your dog remains socialized and friendly to other dogs and people, and continues to obey your instructions while transitioning through adolescence and adulthood. Exercises include settling down, addressing behavior issues, on-leash walking, and leaving things alone when moving. To graduate, you and your dog must be able to perform a 1-minute sit/stay and a 3-minute down stay.

  • Self-Control training with distracting environments
  • Behavior issues addressed
  • Learning how to read your dog’s body language

(5 months and older) Why not put the FUN back in obedience training?  This is an excellent class for the dog and the human who needs to learn obedience skills.  Classes are held both indoors and outdoors to simulate real-life situations. This class will cover basic social skills, including down, focus work, proper walking on lead, recalls, sits, and stays, along with games. This is an excellent family class to take because it allows you to challenge each other in training your dog.  To graduate, you must be able to have fun with your pooch and pass the obstacle course.
